The hotel originally served as an 18th-century coaching inn and market garden for Goodwood House. The redesign aims to reflect this heritage while adding contemporary comforts. Leadership and Vision
Charles Gordon-Lennox, the Duke of Richmond and Gordon, framed the project as a return to the estate's historical spirit of hospitality. He stated that successive dukes have long invited guests to share in the experiences at Goodwood. The goal, he said, is to create a place from which guests can explore and connect with nature. He described the project as more than a refurbishment, calling it an opportunity to elevate and redefine the hotel for future generations while staying true to Goodwood's character.
Russell Sage, founder of the design studio, emphasized uncovering and celebrating the site's history. Sage also revealed that a roster of local artists and makers will collaborate on the project. Their work, he said, will help create a special experience designed to bring a new generation of guests closer to the estate's character and creativity. He expressed confidence that, given the estate's heritage and hospitality reputation, the hotel will become a cherished second home for returning guests.
