Marriott Bonvoy Amex offers £70 cashback on £200 hotel spend

Marriott Bonvoy American Express Credit Card holders can get £70 cashback on £200 of hotel spend. This offer is valid at participating properties across 25 countries in Europe and the Middle East and runs until 31 December 2026.

Cardholders must register for the promotion via the American Express app or website to claim the rebate. The £70 cashback applies to £200 in eligible spend at hotels in Austria, Belgium, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Oman, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom. While the terms require transactions to be made in British pounds, American Express's ban on dynamic currency conversion makes this rule functionally unenforceable.

How to claim and use the offer

After registering, cardholders simply need to use their Marriott Bonvoy Amex for eligible hotel payments. Splitting a bill across multiple credit cards at check-out is an acceptable way to pay. Many hotels still process payments at check-in, which may also qualify for the cashback. One travel website clarified the process, stating: "It is perfectly acceptable for you to ask, if paying at check out, to split your bill across multiple credit cards."

Value and frequency of the offer

This cashback promotion typically runs twice per year. With supplementary cardholders also qualifying, a primary cardholder and a supplementary user could potentially earn a combined £280 in annual cashback from £800 of hotel spend. While past similar deals have sometimes expanded to other American Express cards, this offer may remain exclusive to holders of the Marriott Bonvoy co-branded credit card.

Combining with bonus points promotion

The cashback can be stacked with a separate Marriott Bonvoy promotion offering bonus points. This parallel offer provides 1,500 bonus points for every two-night cash stay completed by 22nd November 2024. Those points are valued at approximately £7.50. Registration for both the cashback and the bonus points offer must be completed by 13th November 2024.

Limitations and inconsistencies

There are some geographic quirks to the cashback offer. Portugal is excluded because American Express does not offer directly issued consumer cards there. Conversely, Ireland is listed as a participating country despite American Express not operating its consumer card business there, an inconsistency noted in the offer's terms. The listing for the United Arab Emirates is also muddled, with some hotels identified by their Emirate and others by their nearest city. Registration for both the cashback and the 1,500-point bonus offers closes on 13th November 2024.
