A review of Hotel Riomar in Ibiza, a Tribute Portfolio hotel within Marriott Bonvoy, covering its 1968 origins, recent...

Hotel Riomar in Ibiza, part of Marriott's Tribute Portfolio, reopened in 2021 following a major refurbishment. The hotel, originally built in 1968, is located directly on the beach in the town of Santa Eulalia des Riu, about 15-20 minutes east of Ibiza Town and the airport.

According to a review from Head for Points, the property offers a tranquil, boutique experience with 112 rooms and four suites. It draws inspiration from the island's laid-back, bohemian side. The nearby W Ibiza hotel is just a 60-second walk away, but the reviewer notes Marriott chose a different tack with that property's location.

Rooms and Suites

The reviewer stayed in a Deluxe Sea View Twin room. The rooms are small, a carry-over from the original 1968 floor plan. The reviewer states the hotel is better suited to shorter breaks than a two-week holiday. The room featured twin beds, a narrow desk, a small open wardrobe, and a mini-bar stocked with chargeable soft drinks, alcoholic drinks, and snacks like Haribo and half-bottles of Moet.

The bathroom was also not huge, with a standalone shower but no bathtub. Toiletries were from the brand Cereria Molla. Everything was described as bright and fresh following the renovation.

For more space, the hotel offers four suites. These include a big bed, a separate sea-facing room with a sofa, and a larger bathroom with two basins. However, the suites also feature an open wardrobe.

Dining and Amenities

The hotel's lobby has a 1960s vibe, reminiscent of the jet set era, with a smart bar. Breakfast is served in a large room off the lobby, offering a spread of pastries, fruit, cheese, and meats, including well-presented salmon.

The all-day dining menu is classy. Example dishes include Tuna Tataki for €21 and Black Truffle Tagliatelle for €29. The reviewer's son was happy with simpler options like a burger and calamari. During peak summer weeks, the hotel hosts theme food events like paella on Tuesdays and BBQ on Thursdays, accompanied by evening music ranging from flamenco to piano.

Beach, Pool, and Facilities

Hotel Riomar has a smart pool. It was never overcrowded during the reviewer's stay, partly because of the strong lure of the beach. The hotel has 70 generously sized and padded loungers on the beach, with full food and drink service available. A notice stated a zero-tolerance policy towards empty sun beds, with loungers left empty for more than 30 minutes being cleared.

Other facilities include a gym equipped with TechnoGym equipment, though it was described as not huge. Valet parking is available for €20 per day, with the reviewer believing cars are taken off-site.

The reviewer concluded that Hotel Riomar is a lovely spot for a short break on Ibiza, ideal for a long weekend. The overriding thought was that it represents a desirable way of life: flying down, enjoying the easy taxi ride, checking into a sea-facing room, and pottering around Santa Eulalia, the beach, and the hotel pool.
