The Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card has launched a new welcome offer. Cardholders can earn 125,000 bonus points after spending on eligible purchases within the first six months of membership.

Applicants first earn 75,000 points after making $6,000 in eligible purchases. An extra 50,000 points are awarded after spending an additional $3,000. The card carries a $125 annual fee, which is not waived for the first year.

Card Benefits and Earning Rates

Beyond the welcome bonus, the Marriott Bonvoy Business card provides several ongoing benefits. It grants complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status and delivers 15 elite night credits annually to help members achieve higher status tiers.

The card's earning structure is tailored for business and travel spending. It offers six points per dollar spent at over 7,000 participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels. Cardholders earn four points per dollar at restaurants worldwide, U.S. Gas stations, on U.S. Wireless telephone services, and on U.S. Shipping purchases. All other purchases earn two points per dollar.

Eligibility and Restrictions

The welcome bonus comes with specific eligibility rules outlined in the card's terms. Individuals are not eligible if they currently have or have previously held this specific card or the Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card from American Express.

Recent history with certain Chase-issued Marriott cards also affects eligibility. The offer is unavailable to those who have had the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business, Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Business, Marriott Bonvoy Business, or Marriott Rewards Business credit cards from Chase within the last 30 days. Holding a Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful, Boundless, or Bold card from Chase in the last 90 days also disqualifies an applicant.

Also, receiving a new cardmember bonus on a Chase-issued Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful, Boundless, or Bold card within the last 24 months makes one ineligible. The blog notes that while a business is required to apply, many individuals may qualify as having a business even if they do not initially think so.

Comparing Other Marriott Card Offers

For those uncertain about the $125 annual fee, Marriott offers other co-branded credit cards with different structures. The blog from Points With a Crew lists several current alternatives for comparison.

Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card4 Free Night Awards$95After spending $3,000 in first 3 months. Each award valid for stays up to 50,000 points per night.

The blog's author suggests most people will find greater value in the Marriott Bonvoy Business card offer, at least for the first year. They recommend potentially downgrading to the no-annual-fee Bonvoy Bold card after the first year if the fee becomes undesirable.

The report values Marriott points at approximately 0.7 cents each, making the 125,000-point bonus worth well over $1,000. The author concludes, "Yes, it comes with a $125 annual fee but you should be able to get significantly more value than that the first year." Each subsequent year, the card provides a free night certificate to help offset the annual cost.
