Green Dragon Hotel in Hereford put up for sale
The 83-bedroom Green Dragon Hotel in Hereford has been brought to market following a major refurbishment and business transformation by its current owners.
The Green Dragon Hotel in Hereford has been put up for sale for an undisclosed sum. The sale follows a significant programme of refurbishment, investment, and business development undertaken since the property was acquired in 2018.
A consortium of predominantly Herefordshire-based investors bought the historic hotel six years ago. Their stated aim was to restore the property, improve its accommodation and facilities, and reposition it within the local hospitality and business community. The hotel has a history stretching back more than 900 years.
Investment and Transformation
Since the acquisition, the owners have made substantial capital investments in the building. They also focused on rebuilding the customer base and improving the hotel's trading performance. Julian Vaughan, the hotel's managing director, described the project as a "genuine transformation."
Vaughan stated that the investors' objective was to give the landmark a new lease on life. "We have invested significantly in the property and, just as importantly, in rebuilding and developing the business," he said. The owners claim the refurbishment has retained the hotel's historic character while supporting its role as a destination for accommodation, dining, and events in Hereford.
The Sale Process
The 83-bedroom hotel is being marketed as an established and trading business. Agents Graham and Sibbald and Christie and Co are handling the joint sale. The owners believe the completed investment provides a platform for a new owner to develop the business further.
Julian Vaughan framed the decision to sell as a strategic move. "We feel we have achieved what we set out to do in restoring the Green Dragon and demonstrating the potential of the business," he explained. He added that the time is right for a new owner to take the hotel into its next chapter.
Business Continuity
The hotel's owners have emphasized that the sale process should cause no disruption. They stated that customers, employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders are expected to experience normal operations throughout. Vaughan highlighted the importance of this continuity, noting the hotel has an established team, loyal customers, and an active trading business.
The Green Dragon Hotel is now offered for sale, with the current ownership group stating their mission to restore and transform the historic property is complete.
