Radisson Net Zero hotels expand in Stockholm and Copenhagen
Radisson Hotel Group has added four existing hotels in Sweden and Denmark to its Verified Net Zero programme.

Radisson Hotel Group has launched four new Verified Net Zero hotels in Stockholm and Copenhagen. This expansion brings the group's total portfolio of independently verified net zero properties to nine across the Nordics and United Kingdom.
The four newly added properties are all existing hotels. They include three in Stockholm: the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel, the Radisson Blu Royal Viking Hotel, and the Radisson Blu Arlandia Hotel at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. The fourth is the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel in Copenhagen. This move demonstrates the programme's application to complex, established venues with full accommodation, dining, and conference facilities.
Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre leads with LEED Gold and solar innovation
The Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel is part of the Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre, a flagship for the group's sustainability efforts. The congress centre holds LEED Gold certification for its environmental design. It features 1,040 square meters of solar panels and uses a cooling system that draws water from the nearby Klara Sjö lake.
The venue provides 14,000 square meters of flexible event space across 24 meeting rooms. It can accommodate up to 3,000 delegates for large-scale events.
New Verified Net Zero hotels shows scalable operations in major venues
The four properties illustrate that net zero operations are achievable in large, varied hotels. Each hotel offers significant capacity for guests and events below.
| Property | Guest Rooms | Maximum Event Capacity | Key Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel, Stockholm | 414 | Part of 3,000-delegate congress centre | Connected to LEED Gold congress centre |
| Radisson Blu Royal Viking Hotel, Stockholm | Not specified | 180 (largest single room) | 15 meeting rooms |
| Radisson Blu Arlandia Hotel, Stockholm-Arlanda | 342 | 771 | 24 meeting rooms |
| Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel, Copenhagen | 544 | Over 2,000 | Two restaurants, two bars, 14 meeting rooms |
Sustainability measures include carbon-labeled menus and full energy decarbonisation
Every Verified Net Zero hotel must use 100% renewable energy for all functions, achieved through electrification or renewable energy purchases. The programme addresses emissions from energy use, operations, and supply chains, encompassing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions as defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
For Scope 3 emissions, efforts focus on minimizing waste, reviewing supply chains for food and amenities, and developing low-carbon menus. Radisson Hotel Group has partnered with Klimato to create menus with carbon labels ranging from A to E. This menu redevelopment can reduce a recipe's carbon footprint by up to 40%.
Each hotel undergoes independent verification by TÜV Rheinland against the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels. Federico J. González, Global CEO of Radisson Hotel Group, stated that growth and sustainability are interconnected and essential for long-term business strength. Inge Huijbrechts, the group's Chief Sustainability & Security Officer, said the program proves net zero hospitality is a scalable reality. It helps reduce travel and event footprints without compromising on quality or scale.
The group aims to have 100 Verified Net Zero hotels by 2030. This Scandinavian expansion follows the earlier launch of three verified properties in Norway. The initiative shows that net zero operations can be scaled within established properties offering full accommodation, event, and food and beverage capabilities.
