Amex Extends Flying Blue, Aeromexico Transfer Bonuses
American Express offers limited-time transfer bonuses of 25% to Flying Blue and 20% to Aeromexico for Membership Rewards points, valid until October 31.

American Express has launched limited-time transfer bonuses for its US Membership Rewards points to Flying Blue and Aeromexico. The offers, valid until October 31, 2026, provide a 25% bonus for transfers to Air France-KLM Flying Blue and a 20% bonus for transfers to AeroMexico Rewards.
Transfers are irreversible and require a minimum of 1,000 points. The enhanced conversion rates mean 1,000 Membership Rewards points become 1,250 Flying Blue miles or 1,920 Aeromexico points. Travelers must have an eligible U.S. Membership Rewards account that is not linked solely to legacy products or flagged for abuse. Enrollment in AeroMexico Rewards is required for that specific offer.
Eligibility and Transfer Mechanics
Participants must meet specific account requirements. Eligible accounts cannot be canceled, past due, or linked to returned payments at the time of redemption. Accounts tied only to Legacy Card Products, American Express Rewards Checking, or American Express Business Checking are ineligible. American Express reserves the right to alter or terminate the offer at any time.
The bonuses appear directly in eligible accounts and expire on October 31, 2026. No retroactive credit or expiration extension is offered for transfers completed after the deadline. Transferred points may take up to 72 hours to appear in the airline loyalty account and become subject to the airline's terms, unable to be returned.
Bonus Value and Redemption Windows
The bonuses provide distinct value across the two airline programs. The transfer windows are slightly different, though both begin on October 1, 2026.
| Program | Bonus | Conversion (1,000 MR points) | Redemption Window Ends |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flying Blue | 25% | 1,250 miles | 11:59 p.m. MST, Oct 31, 2026 |
| AeroMexico | 20% | 1,920 points | 11:59 p.m. MST, Oct 30, 2026 |
Flying Blue often features strong Europe pricing via its monthly Promo Rewards. Aeromexico’s value is generally considered lower despite the higher point yield. Transferring points from a program like Membership Rewards to Flying Blue resets that program's expiration clock, as miles otherwise expire two years after the last account activity.
Practical Considerations and Risks
Travelers must verify award availability before transferring points. The risk of locking points into a suboptimal program is especially high with less valuable partners like Aeromexico. Award availability can be hard to find, and all redemptions are subject to taxes, fees, charges, and individual carrier restrictions.
Flying Blue miles cover Air France, KLM, and SkyTeam partners, but awards come with somewhat high taxes and fees. The author of the original report, who has extensive experience with both programs, advises caution. "I have flown quite a bit in Aeroméxico business class between Europe and South America," they said, while adding, "I have nothing but mostly headaches with Flying Blue."
Specific redemption opportunities exist. Flying Blue's Promo Rewards can offer economy awards between many US cities and Europe for 18,750 miles one way. With the 25% bonus, that requires just 15,000 Membership Rewards points. A standard business class award between the US and Europe requiring 60,000 miles would need only 48,000 points transferred. Promo Rewards sometimes drop as low as 11,000 miles for US-Europe economy flights. Other possibilities include business class to Tel Aviv for 60,000 miles or Delta economy flights to Hawaii for 17,500 miles one-way, though Delta rarely releases first class award space on those routes.
The offer is non-transferable and cannot be combined with others. American Express is not responsible for flight, accommodation, or reward availability. Travelers risk losing the bonus value if they delay transfers past October 30, 2026. They should verify award availability before transferring points before the October 31, 2026 deadline.
