Royal Air Maroc to launch free Starlink Wi-Fi in 2027
Royal Air Maroc will become Africa's first airline to offer free Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi, equipping 41 aircraft starting in early 2027. The service will be complimentary for all members of its Safar Flyer loyalty program.

Royal Air Maroc confirmed it will equip 41 aircraft with Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi, making it Africa’s first carrier to offer the service. The installation rollout will begin in early 2027.
The airline announced the Starlink Wi-Fi rollout today. No other airline in Africa has officially committed to the satellite internet service yet. The deployment will make Royal Air Maroc the first African airline to offer Starlink connectivity onboard its aircraft.
Service details and passenger access
Starlink Wi-Fi will be provided free of charge to all Safar Flyer frequent flyer members. The service is offered gate to gate.
Once installed, the system will allow passengers to access high-speed internet during flights. This includes streaming, online communication, and work. Starlink enables live streaming, productivity similar to on the ground, gaming, and e-commerce. The new service is expected to provide greater access to digital services, particularly for those needing to communicate or work while traveling.
Fleet scope and installation timeline
The rollout will begin in early 2027 and cover long-haul and select narrowbody aircraft. The airline will equip 41 of its roughly 70 aircraft with Starlink.
| Aircraft Type | Likely to Receive Starlink |
|---|---|
| Boeing 787s | Yes |
| Boeing 737 MAX 8s | Yes |
| Some Boeing 737-800s | Possibly |
| ATR 72-600s | Not specified |
| Embraer E190s | Not specified |
The fleet currently consists of around 70 aircraft, including the types listed. Installation will proceed gradually to minimise disruption to operations. The rollout will take place in stages to maintain operational continuity.
Context within airline modernization
This initiative supports Royal Air Maroc’s broader multiyear plan to modernize its fleet and passenger experience. The move aligns with CEO Hamid Addou’s goal to match international standards.
Hamid Addou stated: "this agreement reflects a clear ambition: to offer our passengers a travel experience that meets the highest international standards."
The project is part of a broader multi-year plan, which includes fleet renewal and cabin refurbishment. It forms part of a transformation plan covering fleet renewal, redesigned cabins and improvements to the passenger experience both on the ground and onboard. The airline said the initiative responds to growing demand for continuous connectivity among business travellers, members of the diaspora, students and tourists. Royal Air Maroc has increased its fleet significantly in recent years.
Dozens of carriers globally have signed up for Starlink service, which is designed to provide high-speed, low-latency internet connectivity. No current fleetwide Wi-Fi exists on Royal Air Maroc.
Travelers flying on equipped Royal Air Maroc aircraft after early 2027 will access high-speed, gate-to-gate Starlink Wi-Fi at no cost if they are Safar Flyer members.
