Aer Lingus Completes Free Starlink Wi-Fi Rollout Early

Aer Lingus has finished installing free Starlink Wi-Fi on its entire long-haul fleet ahead of schedule. The service is available to all passengers without requiring loyalty program membership.

Loyalty Status: Aer Lingus has finished installing free Starlink Wi-Fi on its entire long-haul fleet ahead of schedule

Aer Lingus has completed its free Starlink Wi-Fi rollout across all long-haul aircraft. The work finished ahead of the original deadline, making the airline the first in its group to offer such connectivity without a loyalty sign-up.

International Airlines Group announced plans for free Starlink Wi-Fi on Aer Lingus, British Airways, and Iberia flights in November 2025. Aer Lingus began the process by equipping its first Airbus A330 in March 2026. The airline has now installed the system on all 12 of its Airbus A330s and 14 Airbus A321 aircraft used for long-haul routes. This includes both the A321LR and A321XLR variants.

The project was completed before the end of October 2026. This beat both the initial target of the first quarter of 2027 and a later revised goal of the end of 2026. All A330-300 aircraft in the fleet are reported to have the system. Two older Airbus A330-200 aircraft remain without Starlink installation. They are scheduled to be parked imminently.

Free Wi-Fi for all passengers

Aer Lingus offers its Starlink Wi-Fi service completely free of charge. Crucially, access does not require membership in the airline's AerClub loyalty program. This policy sets it apart from some competitors. The service provides high-speed, low-latency internet from gate to gate. Passengers can use it for live streaming, work, online gaming, and shopping.

One passenger who values staying connected said: "I find Starlink to be a game changer."

Future narrow-body expansion

The airline's next technological focus is its short-haul fleet. Aer Lingus plans to extend the Starlink rollout to its Airbus A320 family aircraft. The carrier operates 27 standard Airbus A320s and eight newer A320neos. No specific timeline for this installation has been announced.

Wider industry context

The move is part of a broader shift towards free, high-quality in-flight connectivity. Within the same airline group, British Airways has also progressed with its Starlink installation. British Airways has equipped all 18 of its Airbus A350s. After a four-month pause, work has restarted, with six A350s and nearly all of its Boeing 787-8 aircraft now offering the service. The airline aims for full fleet coverage by March 2028.

Other carriers are making similar moves. VietJet Air has announced it will offer free Starlink Wi-Fi across its entire fleet of 120 aircraft. Not every airline is adopting the technology, however. Delta Air Lines confirmed it declined a deal with Starlink. The Delta CEO stated this was due to business model disagreements, not personal issues with SpaceX founder Elon Musk. Delta is pursuing other Wi-Fi upgrades and a future partnership with Amazon.

With its long-haul fleet now connected, Aer Lingus will next work on bringing Starlink to its A320 narrow-body aircraft. The timing for that phase of the rollout remains unconfirmed.
