JetBlue is launching unlimited complimentary first class upgrades for TrueBlue Mosaic elite members and JetBlue Premier Cardholders, effective December 2026. The space-available upgrades will clear starting 60 minutes before departure for passengers holding eligible Main, Main Flex, EvenMore, or EvenMore Flex fares, whether booked with cash or points.

All Mosaic tiers, from level 1 to 4, qualify for the new benefit. Holders of the JetBlue Premier Card, including authorized users, are also eligible even without Mosaic status, provided the trip is paid for with that card. Eligible members are automatically added to the upgrade waitlist at check-in, with their position visible in the JetBlue app. A reservation may include the member and one companion, but groups of three or more travelers are not eligible for upgrades.

Upgrade priority and companion eligibility

Upgrade priority is determined first by Mosaic tier status. Within each tier, further priority is given to those who paid with a JetBlue credit card, then to those holding an EvenMore fare, and finally by tiles earned in the current programme year. The full priority order is as follows:

Priority TierDescription
1Mosaic 4 members
2Mosaic 3 members
3Mosaic 2 members
4Mosaic 1 members
5JetBlue Premier Cardholders without elite status

One companion traveling on the same reservation can also receive an upgrade. Members who do not receive an upgrade with a companion have three options when only one seat opens up. They can take the upgrade alone, give it to the companion, or remain together in economy. United MileagePlus Premier members are not included in this upgrade program.

Program changes and industry context

The upgrade window has drawn criticism for clearing upgrades only 60 minutes before departure, a timeframe described as not even close to competitive with other programs. Other major US carriers open upgrade windows days or even weeks in advance. This leaves little certainty for travelers who want a confirmed premium seat before travel. JetBlue's network is concentrated up and down the East Coast, meaning the airline should have little difficulty selling most of those seats outright.

The introduction of unlimited complimentary BlueFirst upgrades gives JetBlue's Mosaic programme a concrete premium benefit it previously lacked. Combined with the carrier's new lounges in Boston and New York, and the launch of the BlueFirst product itself, the loyalty offer is materially stronger heading into 2027. BlueFirst is set to debut on 8 December between Boston and Fort Lauderdale. JetBlue's first class product will be installed on aircraft without Mint business class, starting December 2026. The airline plans to reconfigure planes to reduce standard economy legroom while adding first class seating.

Broader loyalty overhaul

A broader programme overhaul, including revised rules and wider loyalty changes, takes effect from 1 February 2027. JetBlue quietly introduced a paid bidding system for Mint business-class upgrades via Plusgrade, with bids processed one day before departure and prices ranging from $650 to $1,900 depending on route. The airline is also renaming Move to Mint certificates and adding BlueFirst as an option alongside Mint.

Members reaching Mosaic 2, 3, or 4 can each select one further certificate as a milestone reward through the Perks You Pick programme. Mosaic 3 and Mosaic 4 members each receive four certificates automatically on qualification. Mosaic 4 members can earn two additional certificates for every 100 tiles beyond 250. Selections under the revised Perks You Pick programme must be made within 60 days or they are forfeited, though selections earned through 31 January 2027 are exempt from this window.

Other changes include a reduction of the points milestone reward for Mosaic 1 from 15,000 to 10,000 points. The current-year tile bonus drops from 20 to 10. JetBlue confirmed that travelers who completed its 25-for-25 challenge will receive an annual Perks You Pick selection for 25 years. This benefit includes options like bonus points, statement credits, or tile boosts and applies immediately without additional spending. The unlimited upgrade program is scheduled for implementation in December 2026.
