MeliaRewards loyalty program overhaul set for January 2027
MeliaRewards will undergo a major transformation in January 2027, shifting from fixed-value point redemptions for room discounts to a new model focused on status and on-property spending. The changes introduce revised status rules and cast uncertainty over the future of Gold members' valuable 20% discount vouchers.

MeliaRewards will undergo a major shake-up in January 2027. The Spanish hotel group's loyalty program is shifting from its previous fixed-value redemption model to new status rules requiring combined nights and spend for advancement.
Revised status rules are part of the January 2027 changes. The program abandoned reward charts years ago in favor of a fixed value redemption process similar to Accor. Gold status can be earned through nights or spend, with potential new rules requiring both for status advancement. Rollover nights will be introduced for status renewal, allowing excess qualifying nights to be carried forward.
A notable benefit is that couples can jointly have their nights count toward elite status. Partners can combine qualifying nights and rollover nights, a benefit not offered by other hotel chains. New messaging suggests points may be limited to on-property uses rather than room discounts, and future status may be based more on spending and activity.
Gold member benefit uncertainty
Existing Gold vouchers face potential removal as the program transitions to new redemption structures. Gold members currently receive three 20% discount vouchers annually, valid at any hotel on any rate on any day. These vouchers can materially reduce eligible stay prices.
Meliá has not confirmed whether Gold vouchers will remain after the overhaul. This creates significant uncertainty for Gold holders, including those who qualify for complimentary Gold status through The Platinum Card from American Express. The program is no longer considered a strong loyalty program due to its shift from reward charts.
Points redemption limitations
Points will no longer apply to room rate discounts but remain valid for on-property redemptions. The future use of points for room discounts is still unclear, and the wording about points being 'no longer valid for discounts' is vague. Members relying on points for room discounts could lose a key way to lower cash costs.
Melia said the changes represent a new stage. "For years, points have been an essential part of MeliáRewards, helping us recognize our members’ loyalty and reward every stay," the company stated. It added, "The new stage will go further, offering you more recognition, new possibilities, and experiences that enrich everything it means to be part of MeliáRewards."
For comparison, the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card earns 12 points per dollar at Hilton properties. Meliá plans to provide details in January.
