Alaska Airlines will allow select Bank of America cardholders to transfer points directly to Atmos Rewards starting in 2027. This expansion marks a strategic shift for the airline's loyalty program, which currently only accepts direct transfers from Bilt Rewards at a 1:1 ratio. The move is expected to create an additional revenue opportunity for Alaska through the sale of points and boost the program's global reach.

Alaska plans to add more bank transfer partners over time, referring to 'select global financial institutions.' The goal is to make Atmos Rewards, which serves both Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines, more mainstream and accessible. Bank of America already issues co-branded Atmos Rewards credit cards. The specific cards that will support the new transfer capability have not been confirmed.

What this means for Atmos Rewards members

The expansion aims to boost program accessibility and revenue while raising concerns about award space competition. Atmos Rewards connects members to Alaska, Hawaiian, the oneworld alliance, and more than 30 global airline partners serving over 1,100 destinations. Increased transfer volume may intensify competition for award seats on these partner airlines.

Award availability on partner airlines remains the primary constraint on point value. If partner airlines restrict award space further, the real value of Atmos points could decline. The program is moving toward broader accessibility, similar to programs like Flying Blue. Alaska has not yet addressed how it will manage award inventory or partner availability. As of now, there are more questions than answers.

Related Atmos Rewards updates launching in 2026-2027

Alongside the transfer expansion, Alaska is introducing a suite of new features. A new Atmos Rewards debit card will launch in early 2027, and the Atmos Rewards Visa Business Card will be refreshed in late 2026. The business card refresh will include 10x points on eligible purchases through Atmos Rewards for Business, lounge passes, and free same-day confirmed flight changes.

Starting October 1, 2026, members can choose how they earn points and status points for flights departing on or after January 1, 2027.

All members can change their earning choice once per calendar year for future travel.

Six Atmos Communities will also launch beginning October 1, 2026, offering tailored benefits:

  • Global Locals, Families on the Go, Culinary Journeys, Active Escapes, Club 49, and Huakaʻi by Hawaiian

Benefits include free bags, exclusive flight deals, bonus-point challenges, partner offers, 20% off select Atmos Rewards Unlocked experiences, award-flight discounts for children, and bonus status points for international travel. Club 49 and Huakaʻi by Hawaiian will see expanded resident benefits.

Pre-registration for the debit card is open now. Its features will include a choice of card designs, flight and onboard purchase discounts, free points sharing, no foreign transaction fees, and the ability to pay certain account fees with points.
