Until Wednesday 16th September, members can purchase a lump sum of Avios equivalent to 500% of the points they have earned from qualifying transactions in the last 30 days, a significant increase from the standard 300% cap.
The promotion offers a notably low price point for the loyalty currency. The cost per Avios can be as low as 0.92 pence, providing a cheap way to buy Avios for members who have accrued a sufficient base of recent earnings. The scheme is designed to top up accounts for future redemptions.
How the Balance Boost promotion works
Avios Balance Boost, introduced in June 2023, is accessed via the standard 'buy Avios' page on the British Airways website. Members see a list of their eligible Avios-earning transactions from the previous month. They can then choose to boost the total by a multiplier, with the cost determined by a tiered pricing structure.
To secure the lowest rate of 0.92p per point, members must select a 3x, 4x, or 5x boost multiplier. Selecting a 1x or 2x boost results in a higher cost per Avios. The report stresses that buyers should avoid these lower multipliers to get the best deal.
Eligible transactions and important caps
Not all Avios inflows qualify for the Balance Boost mechanism. The scheme allows members to boost points earned from specific sources while excluding others obtained through transfers or exchanges.
Qualifying transactions include Avios earned from the British Airways shopping portal, credit card spending, flights, and 'hotels and travel' partners like Uber. Points transferred from American Express Membership Rewards, HSBC Premier, and Heathrow Rewards are also eligible for boosting.
Transactions that cannot be boosted include balance transfers from other airlines, Nectar exchanges, Avios shared or gifted by other members, and previously purchased Avios. Each qualifying transaction can only be boosted once.

Synergy with other transfer bonuses
